Generative AI Policy

AL-MAQASID: The International Journal of Maqasid Studies and Advanced Islamic Research acknowledges that Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies may offer benefits in academic writing, translation, and editorial processes. To ensure transparency, accountability, and academic integrity, any use of GenAI in the preparation, writing, analysis, translation, or editing of a manuscript must be clearly disclosed in the article.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, argumentation, citations, and ethical integrity of the manuscript, regardless of AI involvement. GenAI tools may not be listed as authors under any circumstances.

Permitted Use The journal permits limited use of AI-assisted tools strictly for:

  • Language editing, grammar checking, and proofreading;

  • Translation assistance (provided the final output is verified by the author for accuracy, particularly regarding religious texts and terminology); and

  • Data visualization that does not generate, alter, or manipulate the underlying research findings.

Prohibited Activities The following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Using GenAI to generate scientific content, core arguments, literature reviews, data, or analysis (including theological, jurisprudential, or Maqasid frameworks) without full disclosure;

  • The inclusion of fabricated references, citations, or primary source texts created by AI (hallucinations); and

  • The use of GenAI in the peer review process, editorial decision-making, or the handling of confidential manuscript materials.
