Generative AI Policy

Scope

This policy applies to the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools — including large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and similar technologies — in the preparation of manuscripts submitted to AL-MAQĀṢID.

Core Principle: AI Cannot Be an Author

Generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies do not satisfy the criteria for authorship as defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the journal's own authorship policy. AI systems cannot: (a) take intellectual responsibility for the work; (b) provide informed consent to submission; (c) be held accountable for research integrity. AI tools must not be listed as authors of any manuscript submitted to AL-MAQĀṢID.

Permitted Uses

Authors may use generative AI tools for:

• Grammar checking, spelling correction, and language polishing
• Literature search facilitation (with all retrieved sources independently verified)
• Formatting and reference organisation
• Translation assistance (with human verification of accuracy)

In all cases, the intellectual contribution, scholarly argument, and critical analysis must be the work of the human author(s).

Prohibited Uses

The following uses are not permitted:

• Using AI to generate original text, arguments, or analysis that is presented as the authors' own scholarly contribution
• Using AI to generate literature reviews, methodological frameworks, or conclusions without substantial human intellectual input
• Using AI to fabricate or hallucinate references, citations, or data
• Using AI to bypass or deceive the plagiarism detection or peer review process

Disclosure Requirement

Authors who have used any generative AI tool in the preparation of their manuscript must disclose this in the Methods section or in an Acknowledgements statement, specifying: (a) the name and version of the AI tool used; (b) the purpose for which it was used; and (c) confirmation that all AI-generated content has been reviewed, verified, and is the intellectual responsibility of the human authors. Example disclosure: 'The authors used [Tool Name, Version] for [purpose, e.g., language editing]. The authors take full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the content.'

Detection and Consequences

AL-MAQĀṢID uses AI content detection tools as part of its manuscript screening process. Manuscripts found to contain undisclosed AI-generated content, or to use AI in ways that violate this policy, may be rejected or, if discovered post-publication, retracted. The editorial office reserves the right to investigate suspected violations and to involve authors' institutions where appropriate.
