Copyright and Licensing Policy

Authors retain the copyright to their work for all articles published in AL-MAQASID. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). This license allows users to download, read, and share the work for free. Furthermore, the article may be reused and quoted, provided that the original published version is appropriately cited. These conditions facilitate maximum exposure and utility of the research while ensuring authors receive proper credit.

Licensing Exceptions

In exceptional circumstances, alternative licensing arrangements may be considered. If an author is subject to specific conditions (e.g., mandates linked to research funding) that preclude the standard license, they must notify the AL-MAQASID Managing Editor prior to publication. Exceptions are granted solely at the discretion of the publisher.

Reproduction of Third-Party Material

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any published material (figures, schemes, tables, or text extracts) that is not in the public domain or for which they do not hold the copyright. Permission must be requested from the copyright holder (typically the publisher; please refer to the imprint of the original publication).

Permission IS Required For:

  • Your own works published by other publishers where you did not retain copyright;

  • Substantial extracts from any other work or series of works;

  • The use of Tables, Graphs, Charts, Schemes, and Artworks if they are unaltered or only slightly modified; and

  • Photographs for which you do not hold the copyright.

Permission IS NOT Required For:

  • Reconstruction of your own table using data already published elsewhere (Note: You must cite the source as "Data from..." or "Adapted from...");

  • Reasonably short quotes, which are considered "fair use"; and

  • Graphs, Charts, Schemes, and Artworks that are completely redrawn by the authors and significantly altered beyond recognition.

Obtaining and Citing Permissions

To prevent delays in the publication process, authors should secure necessary permissions as early as possible. AL-MAQASID cannot publish material from other sources without proof of permission. If there is any doubt regarding copyright status, authors should apply for permission.

If the copyright holder provides specific instructions for acknowledgement, those must be followed. Otherwise, please use the following style at the end of the caption for the Table, Figure, or Scheme:

"Reproduced with permission from [Author Name], [Book/Journal Title]; published by [Publisher Name], [Year]."
